SLPN Sports - With Robert Matthews and "Tank" McNamara

Robert Matthews: Hi and Welcome to SLPN SPORTS, On tonight's show we are continuing our look across the Louisiana State Championship and the teams involved this season at all levels. Joining me in the studio is former State Championship Defensive MVP Will "Tank" McNamara.

RM: So Tank, we are looking at a new team from Columtreal University, only formed this season.. so they are still a bit of a unknown quantity, they are based on the outskirts of Hathian, which was one of the hardest hit places during Katrina, so it must be good for the campus and the local population to have something to cheer on a Friday night? I know you have taken a look at some of the practise tapes. Is there anyone who stands out to you?

Tank McNamara: Firstly, I agree that its great, Hathian and the local area, will now have a Football Team to cheer! They might not be challenging for titles, just yet... but Football brings communities together. Moving onto the team itself, I have picked out a number of players, who i think the Coach will build his team around.

RM: So, if you were put on the spot, you say that the Columtreal "Looters" are not going to be fighting for the State Championship?

TM: No, I don't think so, i mean.. like i said, they have a number of good individual players, but it is all about... if they can gel as a team, as a unit and produce results against teams that have been set up and playing for much longer then themselves.. so, just heading to my notes.. let me tell you about the players that i think will be the heart of this team. First, you have to start with the Quarterback and Captain Jason Keaton, Jason is ex-military and very calm under pressure, with a rocket arm and that ability to dodge defence men like incoming mortars, he will be good at getting the Offence moving the chains, be it through the air or on the ground.

Which brings me to his main "go-to" men, if he decides to Air it, then Hayden Grimm will be there to bring it down, Also Hayden will be handy if there are any on field injuries, as he is also a Paramedic... brings a whole new meaning to "Safe Hands". The other option, will be the Power Running of Michiyaki.. who is as tricky to bring down, as is pronouncing his name! but with these two, Keaton can keep the defence guessing and I think they will probably be using a formation, which will utilise both of these players.. so expect a Spread Formation.. i think!

RM: Always a great basis to build your team around Offensively, when you have players who can catch and run, really expect them to mix it up.. what about Defensively? Can they face up to some of the strongest offensives in Louisiana?

TM: Actually, I think they can... its going to be tricky, but again i have picked out three players from the Defence, who i think can help this defensive unit work slickly.. Starting at the line, we have British Import.. Josh Andrew-Parker, he was a DT in British University Championship winning team Birmingham Lions, so he has the experience in big games, last season he scored 10 Sacks and was instrumental in stopping the outside runs, so i look forward to much the same in his transition to US Football..

Just behind him, you will find another Brit in Cole Thornton, He is known as a rushing Line Backer, great at stopping those central runs, but also he can hold back to disrupt Passes, when in the Cover 2 formation...

Finally my third player in the defensive unit to look out for is Scott Samson, at Strong Safety, He is an exciting talent.. he really covers a lot of ground in the deep formations, closing down on receivers and again like Thornton, he will disrupt the passing games and make a QB think twice before sending the ball in his direction!

RM: The 6 players you have pointed out Tank, sound like they cold be enough for this team to finish somewhere decent in the table??

TM: It all depends if these players can be the gel or glue, call it what you want.. that holds this team.. Offensively and Defensively in place... we will have to wait and see...

RM: I Guess we will.. before we go, lets check out the other teams in Columtreal Looters Division III This Season..
